Private Housing Types

Room in Private Home:
A room in a private home is most suitable for a student who prefers a quiet lifestyle. Many homeowners in the surrounding area offer private rooms, usually with a private bath, to students. Generally, the renter has access to other parts of the house, including the kitchen.

Roommate Situations:
Having a roommate is one of the best ways to reduce your rent cost. Roommate situations can indicate either your own bedroom within a shared apartment/house, or a shared bedroom with one or two other people.

Private Residence Halls:
There are privately owned residence halls near the UCLA campus. These situations include a shared room, shared bathroom, and dining facilities. For more information call Hillside Residence Hall (310) 208-2221. For cooperative living, the University Cooperative Housing Association maintains several buildings near campus where students work four hours a week in exchange for reduced rent. For more information call the Co-op at (310) 208-8242 or visit them online: www.uchaonline.com

Apartment:
Apartments are defined by the number of bedrooms they have. One and two-bedroom units are most popular, but there are also some three bedroom apartments available. These have separate kitchens and sometimes more than one separate bathroom.

House:
Most houses for rent have at least 2 bedrooms. This is a good option for those that have pets or want a yard.

Guest House:
A guest house is a separate unit in the back or side of a larger private home. These are usually either a single room or a living room and bedroom, and generally include bathroom and kitchen facilities.
